The Tomás Rivera Center Graduate Student Learning Assistance
Graduate Student Learning Assistance (GSLA) assists UTSA graduate students in achieving academic success. The program works with graduate students at all levels, including beginning students, doctoral students, and those working on their thesis or dissertation. GSLA provides assistance in four areas: writing, research, professional, and academic excellence. Resources include: workshops, in-depth programs, academic coaching, and online support.
- Academic Coaching: Individualized assistance on a variety of topics, but commonly on issues such as time management, overcoming writing blocks, understanding your research, and motivational issues.
- Graduate Student Learner Series: The workshop series offered during each semester covers topics such as developing a research focus, organizing your research writing, citation styles, and study skills.
- In class workshops: Tailored workshops for the classroom upon request by faculty.
- Writing Institutes: Week long trainings that occur during Spring Break and either the end of the Spring or beginning of the Summer semesters.
- Thesis/Dissertation Support Group: The group offered to provide graduate students support in dealing with procrastination issues, stress and time management, confidence issues, overcoming writing blocks, effective communication, and defense preparation.

The Counseling Services office offers students and the campus community a variety of professional services. University Housing
There are four housing complexes on-campus offering several styles of group living. On-campus housing accommodates approximately 3,700 students. Students living on-campus are close to classrooms, exhibits, the student center, library, athletic facilities, student recreation center and a multitude of activities. Chaparral Village and Laurel Village are UTSA's first university owned and operated student housing complexes. University Oaks Apartments and Chisholm Hall also provide on-campus housing to our UTSA students.
